August 2011

Aloha Minty Fans, it’s Bossy Joscie checking in with another Pinterest inspired project.

It’s no secret I love Pinterest, and I’ll bet you already know I also love reusable bags, but did you know I love to read? Last year sometime I sewed up some canvas bags for my boys to use on Library Days. Each boy could take his own bag to the public library, choose his own books, check them out and keep them together to avoid misplacing a library book (oh the horror!) The bags were totally functional, but were then FUNctional? maybe not. A while ago I came across a few different versions of book bags with a funny saying on them and I jumped right on that bandwagon.

I started out by creating my design in CS5.
I used:
Miss Mint’s Whiz Kid
Miss Mint’s Varsity Alpha in Green
Miss Mint’s Paint Box v.02.

When my design was finished, I flipped horizontally and printed on iron on paper.

I trimmed the printed iron on. I ironed on with a dry hot iron, check your paper for instructions.

Peel off and voila, a cute book bag.

Love Love,
Joscie, rhymes with bossy :)

Happy Monday everyone! It’s time for your weekly dose of Mint-spiration!
Let’s get things started with a BANG!

Family on the Fourth | glumirk
I just LOVE this page. You’ve got to admire the incredible use of so many different patterned papers! It’s not an easy task to do it well but this page is perfection!

PC_Challenge-39 – Back to School 2011 | marie_em
It’s back to school time so it’s no surprise to see a pile of back to school pages in the gallery. I love how this page incorporates a scanned document with this little guy’s handwriting. What a great way to give your pages a really personal touch.

First Grade | Mommy2Talesia
Love this page, the pics are SO cute and I think the use of the black and white photos are fantastic.

3rd Grade
| marylee
Totally adorable and the use of  complimentary colors (blue and orange) is just perfect!

First Day | my2monkeys
You can’t go wrong with a delicious mix of color and super cute pictures!

Like A Rockstar | Juno
The unusual design really caught my eye. I love how the play button stickers are being used on this one. Great layering and amazing use of elements makes this page a real hit!

*PMP* #39 |

So sweet and summery, this page is a great take on this month’s PMP Challenge Template.

PMPC #39 – Fun at Ekka | rjcjme
Another creative take on the same template, this page was flipped and I’ll admit I didn’t realize it was the template at first! I love the overexposure of the photo because it actually works really nicely with the light colors of this kit.

Maybe I Could Be… | CupcakeJamie
Wow. This page is so much more than a page. I’m so inspired by the raw-ness and honesty of it. I LOVE how the positive words and hopes are so colorful and fun and playful and how they are set on a dark monotone background. It’s so artistic and brave and powerful.

Magic Cab | Lijezz
I love the cute color combination of the photo and the papers. The journaling is fun and whimsical.

PMP #39: Hiddensee’s treasure of gold | Dornbuschhexe
This is so calm and beautiful. I love the use of the photo as the background. Very cool!

All Hallow’s Eve | mystampin’
And finally…because as much as I try and protest, Halloween is on it’s way and it can’t be summer FOREVER (dang!) we applaud this amazing yet spooky page with it’s harsh shadows that really give it a neat creepy look.

Thanks everyone for sharing your beautiful pages.
Keep scrapping and posting!!

Did ja see? Did ja see?? New products! I’m really excited about how they turned out. I’ve done a few school themed kits more geared towards the younger kids so I thought this time around I’d do something that would also work for the older kids. But I’ve got word tags in there for everything from pre-k to grade 12 so this kit should cover all the bases.

I’ve had SOOOOO many requests for a Graduation Kit over the years so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do one. It coordinates perfectly with the Whiz Kid kit above so if you grab them both you will have a SLEW of goodies for your pages. I know a lot of people have specific graduation colors so I’m contemplating offering this kit in some more signature colors. Let me know what you guys think of that and what your colors were.

These Award Ribbons are my FAVE! They are totally customizable – the center sentiments are included separately as .PNG files so you can put any sentiment with ANY color ribbon – or you can add your own. I think there are enough colors that it should cover most of your needs.

And because I LOVE adding paint to my layouts I’ve got some more messy paint stamps for you. Lots of bubble wrap and other odds and ends. You can never have too much paint. Especially the digital kind…easy clean up.

I got in the template ZONE – in a serious way! Two more sets of 12×12″ Templates

And for you 8.5×11″ scrappers (who often get overlooked when it comes to templates) I’ve got a PREZZIE for you!! Four new fab sets of templates.

Grab the 8.5×11″ Sets 1-4 Templates BULK Pack here.

And now for the most fun part..the LAYOUTS! ;) I’m so proud of my team for rocking out some incredible layouts with only a few days notice. In fact I was so inspired I scrapped – again! I think I’ve scrapped more pages in the last 3 months than I have in the last 3 years LOL. I’m starting to get the scrapping fever! So here’s my page…

And here is the fabulousness from the team..

Merry Monday everyone! ;) I’m just busy getting all the new GOODIES ready for release today so I’m popping in super quick to share this week’s most FABULOUS layouts. Hope you all had a great weekend. You can read about mine here. It’s a bright and beautiful Monday morning here in Toronto.

Not sure if you’re a Monday lover or a Monday hater but either way, I dare you to NOT smile when you look at this first page…and by the way, I SO need that mug.

Goggle Love | Cherry Limeade
ROFL. Is this not the cutest picture? Adorable and a really cool layout to boot! Great color choices really emphasize the photo.

chalk paint | Keela
Who wants to play with Chalk Paint? I do after seeing this layout. How fun! Great page – love the choice of fun colors and the multi-colored alpha is a great touch!

MMBC #68 – No Santa Photo | rjcjme
Minty Mixed Bag Challenge #68 calls for photoless layouts and this is an excellent submission. It’s not easy to go without a photo but I think this page was executed perfectly.

Love at first sight | glumirk
No fair. These pictures are too sweet to resist. Love the overall design and I’m a super sucker for photos in sequence. I also like how it looks like the butterflies are holding up the banner.

Family is Forever | Scrappie Irene
How cool is this amazing vintage page? I think we all get so wrapped up in scrapping our current collection of digital photos that we forget about the treasured gems from the past. You know you have a scanner (or know someone who does) so don’t forget about your old (in this case VERY OLD) pictures. It’s just as important to document the past as it is the present!

Overwear | glumirk
Again, too cute. I love the colors and how the photo was edited with the grungy color pop effect. It goes perfectly with these papers and LOL on the photo and title.

My first challenge | Tiuffy
And we welcome newcomer Tiuffy to the gallery this week. I LOVE seeing new faces pop up and this is a great take on this month’s PMP Challenge!

Thanks for posting everyone!
Have a great day and enjoy my PINTEREST quote of the day:

Happy Sunday! Even though I’m deep in work mode I decided it was necessary to take a little time away from the computer. Why that always seems to involve spending money I’m not quite sure. I took Friday morning & afternoon off and I’m embarrassed to admit that it crossed my mind that might have missed the apartment singer’s Friday afternoom performance. It’s as if now that I’ve aired my grievances and put them out into the universe I’ve been released from the uncontrollable urge to storm out onto my balcony and holler expletives.

I was home on Saturday but alas no music.

Perhaps it’s strictly a weekday thing.

Perhaps someone else complained.

Only time will tell.

I hadn’t intended to take today off as well but Bed Bath & Beyond was having a clearance sale so….whatcha gonna do?

I got this fantastic framed print for my bedroom (regular $109 down to $69.99).

And I picked up some thin velvet hangers. Have you seen these?

I think the originals are called Huggable Hangers. They are super thin so they take up a lot less space in your closet and the velvet lining keeps your clothes from slipping off. I don’t know about you but that happens to me ALL the time. And check it out, little notches for straps. They have become so popular there are now knock offs everywhere.  My mom gave me a set of 20 of the original Huggable Hangers and I liked them so much I decided to change my entire closet over. I picked up this set (above) from Winners on Friday but I found a great deal at Bed Bath & Beyond today so I’m going to return these.

I grabbed a value box of 50 hangers from Real Simple for $24.99.

Can someone say BARGOON???!

Ok, I picked up TWO boxes.

Well, I don’t want to run out in 6 months and have to scour the city to find a matching set.

I hate mismatched stuff.

Unless it’s purposely mismatched for creative effect.

Like chairs.

Or teacups.

I don’t want an eclectic collection of hangers in my closet.

I decided to go for black. I really like the way it looks, they kind of disappear and you see your clothes first instead of the hangers. I was going to order the originals from HSN but it was a headache and a half to click through their ‘packages’ that all seemed to include hooks and shoe things and other junk I didn’t really want…and I don’t even know if they ship to Canada.

Anywho…now my closet is soooo purdy and more importantly I have room for more STUFF!! ;)

Here’s the BEFORE shot. Ew, it’s like hanger hell. I actually had taken a bunch of clothes/hangers out already before this shot but it was wall to wall white plastic. I barely had room for another hanger.

And now here is the AFTER…with ALL the clothes back in the closet:

Now I’ve still got the pants on the white hangers because I was worried that the weight of the jeans would warp the thin hangers. The only downside of the knock offs is that I noticed they aren’t as sturdy as the originals. It makes no difference for tops but I’m not sure about the jeans. Maybe I’ll test one pair or find an alternative in black. I’d like to get that white out of there.

Ahhhhh SPACE.

But seriously, isn’t that sooo much better? Can you believe it’s the same amount of clothes? I’m in hanger heaven!

Is it wrong that I just go open the closet and look inside because it makes me so happy?

Now I know you’re all excited about these hangers so if you decide to run out and grab some save some cash because you won’t want to miss the new goodies coming to Peppermint Creative!

I’ve got some work to finish up before it gets too late. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for Mint-spirational Monday. ;)

… going to look at my closet first.

What is wrong with the people in my apartment building?

I mean seriously?

If you’ve been following my Twitter for the last few days (and I know you have, what else do you have to do all day than to read my tweets – seriously) than you already know that I’ve been blessed with the sounds of  some dude in my building singing along to Wilson Phillips’ – ‘Hold On’ ON REPEAT every day for the last few days.

Oh joy.

My desk happens to be situated right beside my patio doors and I like to keep them open during to day to let the fresh summer air in (plus the cat likes to watch the birds). Unfortunately, the calming sounds of the trees swishing in the wind have been hijacked every morning this week some time between 10am-12 with the sounds of someone singing select parts of the same song over and over again  – very badly.

It’s not loud enough to record or complain. Nope, it’s JUST loud enough to be super annoying. He must also have his window or patio door open. Hey, I love music just as much as the next guy but why must we play the same song over and over and OVER again? To be honest I’m not even completely sure he is playing the whole entire song. I keep hearing the chorus. I try and tune it out but I can’t.

Just as hit my Twitter account to bitch about it, it stopped.

The next day, same time. Wilson Phillips on repeat. Again. At least 5 times.

The following day I caught a break. The song changed to Sting – ‘If I Ever Lose My Faith In You’ x5 times on repeat.

This is a REALLY annoying song to hear on repeat. Even more annoying than ‘Hold On’.

I decided to take action and went out to the balcony to see if I could figure out which apartment it was coming from. I couldn’t. Nobody outside. The weird thing was that the music seemed to be coming from one direction and the singing seemed to be coming from another. Could this be a two man operation?

Today a couple rounds of Hold On and another Sting song: Desert Rose. Too many times to count.

I was about to lose my shit when it stopped. I’ve been contemplating leaving a note in the lobby. “To the resident who insists on playing Wilson Phillips on repeat every morning,  please STOP IT – or close your window.”

Too bitchy?

I had also drafted a very polite note for the dude who parks beside me.

PARK BETWEEN THE LINES ASSHOLE. It’s not that hard.

That’s not what the note said. Just what I was thinking.

He likes to park right ON the line between us. There is a cement post on either side so there isn’t much room to compensate when he does this. I had my very polite note in my purse but ever since I wrote it, a different car has parked in that spot and he/she has been parking between the lines. However, I was reminded of that note when I came across this on Pinterest:

Now if I can only track down the mystery apartment DJ I could slip something like this under his door.

So despite my musical domestic disturbances, I’ve managed to design some new goodies that I’m pretty excited about. Posting a sneak peek below at some of the things coming very soon!!

Hooray for new products. ;) Off to finish up. I almost wonder what song I’ll be blessed with tomorrow.

Cheers!
